On the Road

Friday, June 20 - This morning we took off for Addison. We drove from the Denver area down to Pueblo, Colorado and then east on Highway 50 through the Arkansas River Valley to end the day in Garden City, Kansas. Seventeen Model A’s and a couple of moderns made the 300+ mile drive. All of these Model A’s ran just great! However, one A didn’t make it to the “starting line” and was exchanged for a modern. Another A was such a “Fresh Restoration” it wasn’t finished until this afternoon. So, it is being trailered tonight to initiate its maiden drive here in Garden City tomorrow morning. Mid-day, we were all trying a variety of ways to keep cool (Sharon is holding a bag of ice from Love's convenience store). The Tudor in the other picture did eventually outrun that old locomotive. This afternoon it cooled off and most of us got lucky as we snuck in between two hail storms. One straggler got their radiator fins dinged up by hail and they were fearful of the wind that wanted a piece of their Phaeton’s top. After dinner, a quick meeting, and a splash in the pool, we’re resting up for tomorrow when we will head south.
Saturday, June 21 - Friday night brought fun in the pool with the Club Noodle Exchange program. Some of us were really glad to share our noodles – you really had to be there. Saturday found us in three states in three hours. Some smelled more like “money” than others. We learned Walmart equals potty stop with greeters, across the USA. Fred's "new" '31 pickup, Wile E. Coyote, met the road runner and the road runner won when the anvil dropped on him. Great photo op at the vintage three-story gas station in Shamrock, Texas. Watch the movie CARS to see it. Tornado Alley lived up to its name in Childress, Texas where we saw the evidence left from a Tuesday evening storm. Last but not least, Alan and the Wilson’s joined us in Vernon, Texas. Ta Ta for now….wish you were here!
