Keeping the Model A Battery

Charged During the Winter

It doesn’t take long for the old Ford battery to lose its charge from setting too long. I use a one-amp motorcycle battery charger, which will work perfectly for a trickle charge. There is no need to take up your floorboards to hook up your charger. You can do it by hooking up one terminal to the starter switch and the other to a bolt on the engine or on the frame. Make sure to have the correct polarity since the stock Model A is a positive ground. Hook the positive to ground, and negative to the terminal at the starter. If you only have one charger, and more than one Model A, you can switch the charger from one to the other every other week. Keeping your battery charged will lengthen the life of the battery.  Phil Popish
